HISTORY OF BRGY. BANAWON
According to the story of the elders, in the old days, under the rule of the Spaniards, this small village had no name if it was called before, and it was surrounded by forest, and the distance from the house was far.
Because this village is near the coast, there is a child and a family who drowned in the sea here found by the natives almost dead. So this child was taken to their house to prepare his body.
But the people believed in the albularyo (folk healer) so they were treated by the albularyo. The natives shouted "Banhawon" the child. At that moment, a Spaniard passed by and asked what had happened, but they did not understand each other. The natives kept shouting "BANHAWON".
When the Spaniards gave the name of the village, this village was called "BANHAWON" Since then, it was called Barangay "Baryo Banhawon"
and later became BARANGAY BANAWON.
